I got a virus on one of my comps and I need some help getting rid of it.

The virus is called nvaux32.dll

I cant find much from google on how to get rid of it so I was hoping some techie people might be able to help?

I have avg free on that comp and now when I try and run it in safe mode it says I need a registration key cos its corrupted or something - ive reinstalled it but it does the same. I've run some things called UnHackMe and RegRun but they are both a pain in the ass - constantly popping up when monitoring my comp.

The OS is vista home prem 64 bit.

Can anyone who knows about these reg virus give me a step by step on how to get rid of it?

Thanks!

Ok so people might not have seen this virus before or whatever but -

Can anyone recommend a good, free Rootkit removal tool?

I looked for avg but they bundle it in their pay for package.

Cheers.

Ive used housecall and or adaware when AVG has failed

http://housecall65.trendmicro.com/
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Havent had a virus in awhile so I cant say how effective they are now though but you could maybe give it a try

Thanks for those two Shmee. I've used adaware for the tracker stuff in the past but didnt know it did virus' - I'll give it a try.

I'll use that housecall too - might as well use everything and hope its properly clean.

Cheers

Kaspersky has a good online virus scan you can use for free.

Have you tried "Windows Malicious software removal tool" yet?
Sometimes it helps.

In my opinion the best way to get ride of a Virus is to actually format your computer... once your used with it it doesn't take more than a day to have everything back in order

get rid of regrun

resource hogging pos and the partizan kernel module causes more problems than it fixes in my experience

i use comodo internet security, it always rates in top 3 for anti virus- firewall - malware, security on metatsu (sp?) AND its FREE

now for gettin rid of this virus

windows malicious software will only scan for the most well known virus's, its a poor mans virus scan essentially.

I hope you didnt download the AVG Free anniversary edition from cnet, it corrupts your registry and it supposedly has some malicious elements to it, very weird since it made it to cnet.

Go download malwareBytes anti malware , you can find it on cnet under downloads, it beats avg hands down imo.

run in safe mode etc and do full scan

see how that works .

if still having problems post back and theirs a few more things we can do w/o reformatting maybe.

only a day ? lol

sounds like a huge waste.

Stop clicking on random things => never have viruses!

I can reinstall Windows Vista in less than 10 minutes!

Format and reinstall is the safest bet. I try to make it a habit of doing daily/weekly backups to external storage. Of course the external storage needs to be malware free. It speeds up recovery time. All my personal music, pics and video exist on external storage. If you have enough storage, make an image of your drive after a fresh install of windows and save it on external storage. I invested in a terabyte of storage and my hard drive is only 150gb, I can save the entire drive contents and then some.

But that isnt enough, external storage can fail, so burn it to dvd, cd as well and use good media. No cheap shit dvds or cds. And save those in a safe/lock box. Backups save asses.

I know the reinstall is the definitie option but I really cant be doing that. It does my head in too much.

Next comp I'll do the external storage thing to make it an option.

I got all the programs listed by peeps on here and I've been virus free since running them all. Thanks for all the input guys.
